Story
Severian, the Paladin of Purification

An executioner of the Order of Purity from the Age of Witch Hunts.
Severian discovered that the leadership of his own Order was itself mired in sin. His faith collapsed. As atonement, he sealed himself inside the cathedral and slaughtered his brothers along with the upper ranks of the Church, then burned himself together with the temple.
In the moment he turned to ash, the Game offered him a “Chance at Redemption.” The dying Paladin, without hesitation, accepted the offer.
